Team Nigeria 2012
Nigerians have been immigrating to Saskatoon since the 70’s, primarily for educational purposes. Since the 90’s there have been more Nigerians immigrating as skilled workers. The Nigerian community continues to grow and establish itself within Canada by encouraging peaceful coexistence and a push for professionalism in everyday living. There are Nigerians that have established themselves in various disciplines such as Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Accounting and Engineering to name a few and are excellent role models to the younger generation. Nigerians maintain a strong involvement amongst the religious community in Canada especially Christianity and Islam. The mentoring role manifests itself among the youth with a push toward academic excellence, religion, and participation in sports. There is a strong support base from the Nigerian community and friends in Saskatoon as shown in previous editions of the Saskatoon World Cup. The sports involvement in particular is one of the platforms that have been used successfully to foster cooperation with both Canadians and other nationals resident in Canada.
Team Nigeria places an emphasis on great team-work and hopes to improve on the 2011 silver medal finish with the help of its excellent fans. Team Nigeria is buoyed by the return of its key players including; Captain Tony, Dr. Oyedokun, the Ntignee brothers, Patrick Baba, Cliff Rozay, Andy Basangi, and 2011 MVP Mark Diakiw.
