England – 2012 Champions
The “English” community immigrated and settled into the western area of Canada including Saskatchewan well over a hundred years ago. English roots run deep throughout Canada as well as Saskatchewan. The English have never had a “club” team of their own to speak of in Saskatoon but players with English descent and background are scattered throughout all divisions and levels in Saskatoon and the heritage runs deep. Team England are the defending World Cup Champions and though they will have a big bulls eye on them entering their second World Cup anything short of a repeat would be considered a disappointment. The talent pool for England is deep and the squad will see a few changes from last year’s championship team. Key veterans for the squad include Mark Thompson, Dwayne Gareau, John Thomliston as well as the strong defensive pairing of Jeff Friesen and Shane Hopper. With the addition of youngster Matthew “lefty” Gillott being added to the potent attack consisting of Andrew Frost, Myles Shedden and Steve Delong is a repeat in the future for “The Three Lions” come May??
